"Fame" The Musical

So I was invited to this musical called "Fame" on this past friday by Prof. Dodson, that featured his talented daughter Kimberly Dodson @ Saint Paul's School. I really was unprepared for the performance to be quite honest, but the performers were wonderful! Unfortunately a young lady really injured herself during one of the numbers, but despite that the performance was wonderful. Kudos to the cast for a wonderful show! Hope you enjoy the pictures and clips! (The video's are the same, sorry for the multiple posts!)

Introduction to the Hanged Man Tarot Card Meanings:
Just the term "Hanged Man" can be offsetting, and has a tendency to put us ill at ease. However, take a moment to look at our hanged fellow - he shows no sign of struggle on his face. In fact, the whole scene of the card is rather serene with hues of blue covering the card. The Hanged Man's expression is one of complete calm and assurance - not what one would expect at the gallows.

This is precisely the point. There is no expectation with this card. All expectations, along with all actions have been suspended. The Hanged Man is in a state of purposeful, complete surrender, yielding his mind and body to the Universal flow.

When we pull the Hanged Man card it is an indication that we may be "hung up" in our own distracting thoughts, we're complicating things, or we need to step away from something. This card delivers a message that now is the time to ease off from "doing" and simply be for awhile. When we withhold action for awhile, and just take in the events as they happen we allow things to flow more simply. If, on the other hand, we struggle, fight, and insist on control - we are met with restriction and road-blocks every step of the way.

You might've noticed that keyword up there: "sacrifice." This strikes some fear into many hearts, but there is no reason for fear. The sacrifice the Hanged Man asks us to make is in the form of giving up things in our lives that do not serve us. By suspending ourselves (thoughts, actions, emotions) we can gain perspective in order to identify the habits we cling to that hinder our progress. Sometimes in a reading the Hanged Man can be a message that we should set aside our own needs for the needs of others around us too.

I got this card in a recent tarot card reading. I only bring it up because I feel this really explains where I am in my life, I think I need to just be for a while, go with the flow y'kno? Just go with the universal flow....

Political Forum @ Morgan State University Oct 31st, 2008

I found that the Political forum was sort of informing. I felt that the topic of the economic crisis that was covered hit home with me the most, especially when the sub-topic of the banks having a big hand in the student loan business came up. I feel like the bank screws up peoples credit due to the illusion of differing loans, only to hit you with interest after you pay off the initial debt of the principal amount. I personally feel that during the debate clips, neither of the candidates could answer the questions with a straight answer. I firmly believe that both the presidential candidates will propagate their own agendas, agendas that will reflect the wishes and plans of the multi-billion dollar corporations that have contributed and funded their campaigns. I can honestly say that I do not feel the conditions will better, regardless of who takes office, and at this point in time, I am so fed up with debates and campaign commercials that I rarely watch television anymore (in addition to me not watching television in the first place).

What the HELL Spike Lee!!!!

So i just finished watching Spike Lee's " School Daze" and it left me a bit dazed and confused myself! I could follow the beginning pretty well, but during the middle it slowly started to go all over the place. I felt like he tried to cover entirely too many subjects because during the end it got sloppy. DON'T GET ME WRONG! I love a Spike Lee Joint, and usually I leave one of his films satisfied, but the ending of this movie was questionable. It left the audience ( or me in particular) like " Huh?!?!?!" I get the message that black folks need to wake up, but I know there was a better way of explaining that than ringing a bell at the crack of dawn and yelling at the top of your lungs! I mean in real life that is grounds for a certified ass-whoopin! ( Cuz I needs my sleep!!!) But anyway that's just what this sports fan thinks of the movie, Take it or leave it, but plz comment in either case!

How do students between the ages of 10 and 15 feel about school?

When I first received the assignment of interviewing a student between the age of 10 and 15, I began to wonder what I could do to complete the project but also enjoy it. My friend Tiffany and I then came up with the idea of teaming up and interviewing a group of students to receive a general consensus. So we got together on Wednesday September 10th, 2008 and set off on our journey to find the answers that we sought after. As we walked to the nearest middle school we could find, we came across a group of middle school children waiting for a bus at the bus stop. We approached the children and asked if they wanted to participate in an interview and they all accepted the proposition enthusiastically. After the formal introductions were made, I pulled out the good ol’ Nikon camera and began to record our interview with Tiffany headlining the questions. The group of children we interviewed attended school at Winston Middle School, and the group of 8th grade students included 14yr old Keith Palmer, 14yr old Kemal Miller, 14yr old Briana Johnson , 14 yr old Milan Blackwell, 12yr old Anika Johnson, 14 Dominique Bronson, and 13yr old Daisha Cobb. In the interest of time and space consumption, (referring to the paper we had to type) we asked the group the questions that we thought might invoke the most conversation and difference among answers. When Tiffany posed the question do you plan on graduating, we received almost arrogant yeses from the children, which showed us that not all inner-city Baltimore children have pessimistic views about graduating. Other questions were posed like “What are your favorite classes and least favorite classes?” and we heard answers like “Gym and Language Arts” as favorites and “Math” as least favorite synonymously come from the children. All in all we found that some students, particularly these students, do indeed feel like they have hope and will succeed, now, and in the future.
